Roucas Toumba, Vacqueyras 'Les Restanques de Cabassole', Rhone, France
Tasting note:
Do you like big meaty reds? You're in the right place. This is old vine - and old school - Grenache. It has a beautiful deep plum colour, and a fresh black cherry nose that sings with violets, thyme, ink and smoke. On the palate the wine is rich for sure, but freshened by a low-key minerality. Liquorice nuances of violet sweets, dark chocolate and menthol are underpinned by old vine tannins. A beaut.
Producer:
Eric Bouletin, who left the local cooperative to start making wine off his own bat in 2006. The land has been handed down from generation to generation since the Bouletin family first settled here in 1580. There's history in these hills.
Vintage: 2017
ABV: 15%
